"Indian Summer" in the Bavarian Alps

Autumn - the very time for hiking.
The air clear, the sky a deeper blue.
The view from the mountain tops almost infinite.
The days still warm, but the cool evenings are a first recall of the winter to come.
Now, in autumn, the weather is settled and periods of good weather are lasting longer than in summer. Now the thunderstorms with flash and lightning of the past hot summer are no longer a menace for the mountaineers. But you have to get up pretty early for hiking tours, since the days are shorter.

The Bavarian Alps around Fussen in autumn
video - clip

Autumn - harvest-time, thanksgiving.
The meadows in the Alps lie calmly in the mild light of the autumn sun. The cattle were driven from the summer pastures down into the valleys.
One of the main events of the year in the Allgau region is the traditional cattle drive, the so-called "Almabtrieb" - spectacular for Bavarian locals as well as for the many guests.
The lakes around Fussen are perfect mirrors for the high mountain peaks.
In the evening delicious chestnuts are roasting in the pan and the new Allgau cheese is particularly tasty now.

Autumn - indian summer, gossamer.
Brittsommar in Sweden, indian summer in North America, here we call this season "Altweibersommer".
The expression "Altweibersommer" comes from gossamer, the subtle threads along which spiders let themselves carry through the air. Wet with tiny drops of autumn fog, the spider threads remind of the white hair of an old woman.
The magnificient colours of the autumn leaves are a feast for the eyes.
