Winter in Bavaria

The first snow of winter on the rooftops of Fussen

Winter on it's way

The first snow has fallen.
The rooftops of Fussen are covered with this year's first white layer of snow. The frost of the chilly nights has formed beautiful ice-crystals.
Lake Forggensee - Bavaria's fifth biggest lake and in summer a real paradise for water sports - is an artificial reservoir and remains without water in winter time. The river Lech is now showing again it's old bed with the water steaming in the cold winter air.
Heavy winter storms threaten from a sky of lead.
Good to know, that a good hot cup of tea is waiting for you at home at the fire-side.

Snow, snow, snow

Now there it is ... winter, with all it's might.
Although the weather and climate have changed in the past years - almost every winter has brought along masses of snow here in the south of Bavaria. It is not outstanding at all, that half a metre of snow or even more may fall overnight.
High up in the Allgau Alps the overnight freshly fallen snow may mount up to two or three meters.
As soon as the winter sun is shining again from a blue winter sky, we pack our rucksacks an wander through a winter wonderland.

The joys of winter

On the one hand, winter means a lot work clearing away the masses of snow.
On the other hand it's mere pleasure and joy. Going for a walk on well kept and cleared ways through the pittoresque Bavarian winter scenery is a fountain of youth for both, body and soul.
Keen on more sports? Trails for cross-country skiing and slopes of skiing grounds such as Tegelberg, Breitenberg and Buchenberg are not far away from our vacation rental.
